PRESS RELEASE

Many concerned residents have requested that the Rancho Bernardo Planning Board take a position on the propriety of a ‘Hooters’ moving into the RB Industrial Park.

The Rancho Bernardo Planning Board has been formed and recognized by the City Council to make recommendations to the City Council, Planning Commission, City staff, and other governmental agencies on land use matters, specifically concerning the preparation of, adoption of, implementation of, or amendment to, the General Plan or a land use plan when a plan relates to the Rancho Bernardo community boundaries. The planning group also advises on other land use matters as requested by the City or other governmental agency.

Operating in accordance with City Council Policy 600-24 ,The RB Planning Board is charged with providing recommendations to the city on discretionary permits.

For the Planning group to take a position on something outside of our purview would be to jeopardize our standing as an officially recognized organization to advise the City of San Diego on land use projects. Non compliance with Council Policy 600-24 would also jeopardize the planning board’s protection from legal action under Ordinance O-17086 NS (INDEMNIFICATION ORDINANCE)

Elected by the residents of Rancho Bernardo, the Planning Board consists of community members that volunteer their time because they care about the community. As individuals many of us share the same concerns that many residents have voiced concerning the opening of a “Hooters” in RB. Individual planning board members may also join any community protest to express their concern. HOWEVER, as a group the Rancho Bernardo Community Planning Board is not in a position to take any formal action.

The San Diego Chapter of the American Planning Association is pleased to announce that the Rancho Bernardo Community Planning Board is the recipient of the Distinguished Leadership Award to Laypersons.
